I'm using an evaluation version of a program that opens custom filetypes (a combination of text/midi like a karaoke helper). The evaluation version will only open certain files bundled with it. When I try to open a similar file, it will not load but throw a popup explaining that it cannot be opened in the evaluation version. It doesn't matter where the files are located. I'm trying to debug the executable so I get to where the load/not load decision happens.

So far I've used Spy++ and I'm able to break when I press the "Open" button when using the Open File dialogue. The dialogue .dll seems to be comdlg32

comdlg32!CFileOpenSave::s_OKButtonSubclass

I've also tried to use the time machine and search for the filename string to get a lead, but I'm not sure at what time point I should perform the search.

How could I proceed with this?
