I am trying to reverse engineer an app that passes a generated string in HTTP headers.

I have tried APKTool to see if I can find the algorithm behind its generation, but I was never able to find the source code related to generating the string, I thought maybe that part is written with Kotlin, not 100% sure though. I then tried Android Remote Debugging, the breakpoints work, but that does not help much.

I then tried Frida, I thought I would just call the function that generates it and I would get the string. But I am unable to find the function name that generates that string.

What is the most sure way to find the algorithm behind the generation of the string?

  • Is the hash accompanied by some string? Did you find this string in the dex or another binary? – Igor Skochinsky Jan 18 '18 at 14:16
